Our Story
SOAR was founded by an autistic self-advocate and a small group of family members and allies concerned about the increasing use of psychiatric drugs among autistic and other neuro-divergent people in Canada, and the potential harm associated with these drugs. SOAR provides information to neuro-divergent people, to their families and supporters, and to health professionals about the potential risks of psychiatric drugs. While recognizing that psychiatric medications may be of substantial benefit in some situations, SOAR believes that every Canadian should be well-informed about any psychiatric medication they are advised to take, and about non-medication treatment options, so that they can participate in responsible decision-making about their own health and well-being.
